Market for rented rooms ready to rocket

The market for rented rooms ready to rocket. The demand for room rentals is set to grow over the coming months, property analysts have predicted. This is because would-be house buyers are still facing ongoing difficulties trying to obtain a mortgage – either through stringent conditions demanded by the high street finance companies or because they can’t afford the required deposits of at least 25 per cent.

With the mortgage market facing challenges from the Eurozone crisis and the sluggish wider economy, credit conditions are unlikely to ease significantly over the coming year.

As a result, the number of first-time buyers able to secure finance isn't about to rocket up, and demand for the limited supply of rental accommodation will continue to rise. It won't be long before rents resume their upward trend. So, with the cost of renting an entire flat or house increasing – whether one bedroom or more – the next affordable step financially is to house share ie rent a room in a property with a number of bedrooms instead where you’ll more often than not have access to a shared kitchen, toilet and sitting room area.
Your flat mate will probably be a complete stranger, or at least certainly someone you’ve never lived with before. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Many a lifelong friendship has been forged this way (think Men Behaving Badly) and with flat parties there’s always the possibility of extending your social circle many times over or so we’ve witnessed here at www.housepals.co.uk

Young single people and those at college or university have, of course, been flat sharing for years. But more professionals in the UK’s big cities – and often towns - are now looking at renting a room as a possible solution to their living dilemma. No longer is living with flatmates simply the domain of students.
So, if you’re in the market for a room rental, we suggest you get looking now – before the cost of renting a property increases and the demand for rooms in shared houses rocket.
